These Dog & Puppy pads are excellent for training. Unlike many absorbent pads, Paw Inspired® Ultra Protection Dog & Puppy pads include a built in attractant to help speed up the training & housebreaking process. Each puppy pad is manufactured with a special scent which encourages instinctive marking. Sometimes housebreaking can be a challenging process, but with these pads and the instructions below you should be on your way to positive results in no time!
Paw Inspired ® Ultra Protection Dog & Puppy Pads
1) Place the Puppy Pad in a Good Location
It is important that the puppy pad is placed far away from where the dog eats, sleeps, or lives. Dogs instinctively try to avoid eliminating in these areas. Always find a good place far away from these areas to improve positive results. When you start getting positive results, it is a good idea to keep placing the puppy pad in this same area.
2) Familiarize your Dog with the Puppy Pad
When you first start using the puppy pads put your dog on the puppy pad and let it smell the pad's special scent. This will help the dog to detect the puppy attractant.
3) Use an Association Phrase like "Go Potty"
It is important to develop a key phrase so the dog can relate this phrase with eliminating. While your dog is eliminating on the puppy pad you can use a phrase like "go potty." Eventually you can use the command and your dog will understand the meaning. This phrase will be helpful during the dog’s entire life. If you are training your dog to gradually eliminate outdoors you will be able to use the same phrase to encourage him in the future.
4) Give your Dog Positive Reinforcement and Praise
Once the dog has finished eliminating on the puppy pad quickly give the dog a reward and praise. Dogs are very motivated with positive reinforcement and it is the most important part of the training process.
5) If your Dog has an Accident Bring him Back to the Puppy Pad
The training process can be challenging. Be patient with your dog, stay positive and do not punish him for an accident. If your dog makes a mistake and does not use the puppy pad, immediately bring him back to the puppy pad. Eventually the dog will understand the puppy pad is the right place to eliminate.
6) Success! Start Gradually Moving the Puppy Pad to the Desired Final Location
Once your dog gets the hang of the puppy pad and is using it consistently, you can start gradually moving the puppy pad closer and closer to the door. Finally you will want to put the pad outdoors to complete the house training process. If you want your dog to remain eliminating on the pad indoors, you simply keep the pad indoors. Instead of moving the puppy pad outdoors, gradually move the pad to the desired indoor location. Preferably, you want to select a good consistent location where you can place the puppy pad daily. Your dog will consider the placement of the indoor puppy pad the safe indoor elimination area. Replace the puppy pad as needed to maintain a clean hygienic environment for your dog.
If you put in extra time to make sure your dog always has a clean puppy pad available and consistently follow the instructions above you will have positive results in no time!
There are various ways to house train your dog. Below we will describe two
of the most effective house training methods. In the methods below, the
final goal is to have your dog eliminating outdoors or on a puppy pad in the pet owners desired location. Of course there will be challenges along the way and it is important to be patient with your puppy and stay on track and on schedule to ultimately get your dog to eliminate in the desired location. In both methods Paw Inspired® Ultra Protection Dog & Puppy pads can be a helpful tool for quick and efficient training.
